Introduction to Birenda Kumar:
I am a 27-year-old
social worker, with 12 years of experience working for community development
with association of different platform. I have been involved in social work
since 1997 as a full time social worker when I was in 10th Class. I
have gained experience working in the fields of Environment, Child Rights,
Child Sexual Abuse, HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ.
I have travelled
across my country (India) during my M.S.W on motorbike Dec 2003 to May 2004 to
understand the country’s situation and culture diversity. While on this
journey, I closely observed basic service of HIV/AIDS provided by NACO through
State AIDS Control Society. This journey was planned to discover gaps/lacks
between approach and practice in the field of HIV/AIDS. I visited 18 states of
India covering 17,000 KM and 300 VCTC (Voluntary Counselling and Testing
Centre).
I have been fortunate
to meet with Dr. A.P.J. Kalam (Former President of India) on 29th April 2004 to
share and discuss about "Vision 2020." Dr. A.P.J. Kalam is my role
model. I am committed to work towards "India - Vision 2020 " and MDG
2015.
I have acquired
knowledge through many renowned organisations like UNICEF, AASRA, Pratham
Mumbai Education Initiative and Delhi State AIDS Control Society (Govt. of
N.C.T of Delhi, India), AIDS Health Care Foundation, INDIA Care and HLFPPT.
At present I am
working as a State Programme Manager with PRATHAM
Council for Vulnerable Children (www.pratham.org)
and will work until Dec.2009.
I am also serving Student World Assembly (www.studentworldassembly.org) as
Regional Representative , India , UCP – SARnet ( http://ucpsarnet.iglooprojects.org
) as Regional Co-ordinator , India , A Better Community for All (www.abc4all.net) as ABC4All Mentor. I am
serving all of these organisations, as a nonpaid volunteer, linking and
providing more than 5000 youth with information about social worker
opportunities and guidance through online/offline communication (email &
phone).
I have been just
elected for Regional Co-ordinator of
ASIA, UN MG on Children & Youth Asia (http://www.un.org/esa/dsd/dsd_aofw_mg/mg_chilyout.shtml)
Now I am in
midst of preparation for "Around the World: For Peace and Human Rights" which will draw a line from North to South and East to West. It is my
fervent hope and dream that this project will provide many opportunities to
meet millions of young minds who want to change the world and work together to
help make conditions better for all.
Through this
journey I will pass through 100 countries across the globe and organise at
least 30 workshops/interactive sessions in each country based on UN Declaration
of Human Rights 1948. This will also provide a focus for one of the goals of
MDG 2015 (Develop A Global Partnership For Development). My tour will motivate
youth to participate and promote Human Rights and Take Action on MDG 2015. To
