BACKGROUND ANALYSIS
ABC4All SIERRA LEONE is a humanitarian organisation (NGO). ABC4All
SIERRA LEONE develops and promotes grass roots communities especially poor
communities where the inhabitants lack School facilities, Pure drinking water,
Health facilities and other basic needs.
It is registered with the Ministry of Development and Economic
Planning and the Freetown City Council. ABC4All SIERRA LEONE is a quasi
organisation, that is, though humanitarian, it can also generate income to
sustain and take care of certain needs (Activities) even when Donor funds are
not available. It is closely working
with the Ministry of Education, Social Welfare, Youths and Sports.
ABC4All SIERRA LEONE operates in MAKENI, Moyamba, Kabbala, BO,
Kenema and Port Loko Districts, offering services like payment of School fees,
Uniforms, Medical services, used clothing , shoes and food to improve students
attendance and physical status. We also render services like psychosocial
activities, recreational activities and Field Trips for them to improve self
esteem and associate with other communities.
Currently, we are operating in Grafton, Waterloo and the Eastern part of
Freetown. The areas are mostly populated with few developmental facilities as
mentioned above. Grafton has been the poorest of all the communities in Sierra
Leone, with high level of illiteracy and crime rate evidence as majority of the
Youths are not engaged in any meaningful activities. Most of the inhabitants
are less privileged and are low income earners, thereby making it impossible
for them to educate their children, wards. This has totally made the community
more remote and poor.
Due to the high cost of education and Vocational skills Training in
the Country, coupled with the subsistence earnings, the majority of families
cannot even provide a day’s meal, thus making it impossible to pay School fees
and other charges for their children though the willingness is there.
During 6 weeks of Needs Assessment Survey conducted by 3 community
animators, it was discovered that a large number of Youths of School age are
not attending school, do not have exposure to activities like carpentry,
building and construction and mechanics.
Consequently, many have resorted to illegal and immoral practices such
as drugs, stealing and commercial sex for the girls. It is therefore, in view
of this trend, that ABC4All SIERRA LEONE is requesting help for these
vulnerable groups (Disadvantageed youths) especially the girls to save them
from this menace.
The management and staff of ABC4All has tried its utmost best to
assist these children by providing scholarships and other felt needs especially
the girls, Orphans and Commercial sex workers but could not meet the targeted
beneficiaries as the demand and number keep rising while ABC4All SIERRA LEONE
has never received any assistance elsewhere.
AIMS
AND OBJECTIVES
. To create opportunities
for disadvantaged to have income earning capacities.
. To increase literacy in
the community and the country as a whole.
. To minimize the acts of
immoral practices such as Commercial
Sex, drugs, stealing
among youths.
. To provide school fees,
(scholarships) for at least 150 – 200 Junior and Senior
High students and 300
Elementary students.
. To provide Uniforms, books
for both categories.
. To provide a meal for a
day to improve their attendance.
. To provide Medical and
Clothing facilities for the beneficiaries.
The project is limited initially to benefit 600 less privileged
youths especially those in difficult circumstances.
PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
The component of this project will include the provision of scholarship
for the disadvantaged youths. The duration of the scholarship will be for (3)
three years. Extension of support could be done based on the output of clients
and the management of ABC4All SIERRA LEONE.

MANAGEMENT
The management and implementation of this project will be carried
out by ABC4All SIERRA LEONE. The social
workers and community animators will assess and select core street children,
Orphans and Commercial sex workers. It
Will be accountable to the Board and Donors.
