FEEDBACK ON 10/23/04 LAUNCH LUNCH
FROM DAVE GRAY, HFEE:
Thank you, Burt! This is a very well done synopsis of our luncheon/meeting. I'm sure It gives us all the memories of our enjoyment of finally being together and sharing our selves so openly. Thanks to you Burt, we all felt special in the midst of each other. We were comfortable enough to give an honest intent of our individual perspectives on the part each of us see for ourselves and our organizations we represent. You and Marsha were very gracious hosts and I continue to look forward to our success together, without reservations.
Very Sincerely,
Dave Gray - HUCK-FIN / CHEN4ALL
And thank you, Dave, for your review and for your kind words. The communications available to one another within this document appear to contain potential connections that can really begin to facilitate what we all need as well as what the world needs, so now we see what can unfold. One thing clear to me is your dedication and desire to do what it takes, and you have my never-ending admiration and desire to help in any way I can to facilitate your work.

FROM KIM GEBROSKY
Kim Gebrosky, DC, Founder, NAK, sent the following communication to his database:
"I had the opportunity to share our NAK CD-ROM on Saturday in Santa Monica, CA. We had heads of organizations from all over at this "Better Community for All" symposium hosted by NAK Reps. Dr. Burt and Marsha Danet. My talk was videotaped to be part of the presentation for a pilot group in San Diego, and then across the country. Huck-FIn.com is an organization that helps kids through environmental education and Dave Gray, President, showed us a letter of intent from the Superintendent of the Sweetwater Union High School District in San Diego to implement us in part of their pilot school program for the nation!"
DAVID WADE-STEIN SENDS HIS FEEDBACK:
Burt, Marsha, Bob, Kim, Dave, Steve, Art, George, Haekyung, Juliette, and Julie (I hope I did not omit anyone),
I just wanted to personally thank all of the participants from Saturday's ABC4All kickoff lunch and let you know how much I enjoyed meeting you all in person and brainstorming about ways we can make our communities (and by extension, the world) a better place.
After returning home Sunday evening, I received an email from Marsha and Burt in which they commented "It was much more like old friends meeting than it was strangers getting together for the first time" and I wholeheartedly agree. To me that suggests a tremendous synergy in our pursuit of common dreams, and should underscore Margaret Sanger's famous words: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
Had we not been pressed for time on Saturday, I would have shared with you a "wakeup call" that I received in the last couple of months. I have always had low cholesterol, and being a vegetarian, I was convinced cholesterol was a non-issue for me. However, my eating habits had gone downhill now that I have two small children, and I've had no time to exercise. I decided it was time to be proactive with a complete physical so that I could begin exercising again without fear of heart problems, which run in my family. I found that my total cholesterol was 118, which, in the old days, would've been considered great. But now it's known that what's actually important is the ratio of good cholesterol (HDL) to the total. My HDL was only 17, so the ratio was 7, which is high risk (it should be 5 or less). Furthermore, my triglycerides were 446, well above the normal level of 150-200 (this is partly hereditary; my mother has high triglycerides as well and is on the same edication I will be on shortly). After receiving this information in early August, I changed my diet by removing cheese and "trans fatty acids" (e.g., partially hydrogenated oils, which are in just about everything you can imagine, and which have been banned by the country of Denmark) and adding heart-healthy items such as almonds and peanut butter (while peanut butter is high fat and high calorie, it contains the right kind of fat--and for those of you in CA, Trader Joe's carries a product called "Better N Peanut Butter" which is made from peanuts but is only 20% fat).
While I won't bore you with all of the sordid details and tests that followed, I will tell you that yesterday I had an angiogram, which definitively identifies any blockages in the coronary arteries. I'm pleased to report that there were NO blockages found in spite of the risk factors. Given my diet change, my commitment to exercise, and cholesterol-lowering medication, I should be around for a long time to come!
I hope I do not sound "preachy", as that is not my intent. I simply felt it was important to share this information given that a Primary focus of ABC4All is to rid our schools of unhealthy food.
Looking forward to working with you all!
Dave

Burt, Sorry to have missed the meeting. I'm just returning from military duty (all weekend) in Sacramento. I'll read the minutes and let you know if I have questions. If possible, I'd like to host the next meeting here in Northern California on the last Saturday in March 2005? Can we do it then? What do you think? All the best, Herb
